Extreme urban heat is no longer actually an extreme. What seemed like an exception not so long ago has become the new normal in cities worldwide. And as the climate changes, so does the way our bodies adapt to its surroundings.
SWEAT is about the natural outcomes of the heat. We're taught to hide the sweat stains, to read them as unpleasant "flaws." But in a world where the climate is changing so drastically, our relationship to sweat should change too. The photographs propose a shift in perspective from flaw to beauty. Set in the city under relentless heat, the images turn to the marks the body leaves on what it wears. Not something to be ashamed of, but almost an accessory: part of the look, appearing on its own, with a beauty of its own.
